Charles Fay Paul passed away on January 18th in Portland, Oregon. \u0026quot;Charley\u0026quot; was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 19th, 1924. After graduating from high school in Brownsville, Texas, he joined the U.S. Marines during World War II. While stationed at a marine base in the Mojave Desert during training as a parachute packer, he met fellow marine Pearl Billeter, whom he married. They later had two children Virginia and David. During WWII Charley was assigned to duty on the aircraft carrier US Essex in the Pacific where he served with distinction until the end of the war. Shortly thereafter Charley was called up from the Air Force reserves to serve in the Korean War. The family lived in Ashiya, Japan, until war\u0027s end and then was stationed at air bases in Nebraska and Texas before Charley sent to Vietnam in 1963-64. After returning in he was stationed at Hamilton AFB, California and later Travis AFB. In 1965 Charley and Pearl divorced. Charley later met and married his wife of fifty plus years LaRene Thompson. After serving one year stints in Okinawa and Taiwan Charley retired from the air force in 1973. For 2 years he worked security for the post office and left to start the 1st Offender program in Oregon which was funded by government grants. He eventually moved the program to the Bay Area in California where he resided. When LaRene retired as the area director with the Communication Workers of America they moved to Medford, Oregon for a few years, then to the San Antonio, Texas area to escape the Oregon winters. In 2000 they moved back to Oregon, eventually settling at Miramont Point Senior Living Community in Clackamas, where he lived the rest of his life. Charley was leader wherever he lived; he was an active member of the Air Force Sergeant\u0027s association, serving as a division president for all of California. Charley especially loved serving the residents and staff at Miramont Pointe, where he enjoyed living. He played Santa Claus at Christmas for staff and residents and their families, and organized a Christmas fund for non-management employees. He organized and was the first elected President of the Resident\u0027s Council at Miramont in 2003, and was re-elected many times until he retired from the position in 2015. Charley is survived by his wife LaRene Paul, by his daughter Virginia Tichrob-Davis of Canby, his son David Paul of Gladstone, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th, at Peake Memorial Chapel in Milwaukie. A reception to honor Charley will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Miramont Pointe, 11520 Sunnyside Road in Clackamas."",
