Charles Richard Bateman

Charles (Chuck/Charlie) Bateman departed this world on September 20th, 2022.
Born in Portland on August 3rd, 1934, he was raised in Gales Creek, OR. After graduating from Forest Grove High School, he entered Oregon State University as the first one from his family to attend college. While at Oregon State, he took a break and enlisted in the Army for two years. Following his Army service, he completed his studies at Oregon State and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
In June 1959, he married Susanne, the love of his life. After his graduation, Charles and Susanne moved to Astoria and lived there for several years while he worked in the Bumble Bee Seafoods engineering department. They then moved to Portland in 1964 and have lived in the same house ever since. He spent the remainder of his employed years working for various employers as a mechanical engineer in the pulp and paper industry.
Charles was an avid musician and enjoyed playing recorders with friends and in a variety of groups. He also enjoyed gardening and his roses were admired by all in the neighborhood.
Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Susanne; son, Michael of Annapolis, MD; daughters, Mary Myatt (Matt) of Salem and Sarah Ebers (Mike) of Oregon City; and grandchildren, Mitchell Myatt of Salem, Emily Ferrante (Austin) of Happy Valley, and Aidan Springer of Charleston, SC.
A Celebration of Life will be 3pm, Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Portland, OR. This service will be in-person and streamed at www.allsaintspdx.org .
