Carol Ann Sloan, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 17th, 2023, at the age of 87, in Troutdale, Oregon.
Carol was born in Milwaukie, Oregon, to her parents, Alfred Hennings and Constance Mamie Fabiano. She attended Milwaukie High School and later pursued her education at the University of Oregon. Carol worked at Union Pacific Railroad, and was a homemaker before ultimately retiring in Vancouver, Washington, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Carol's journey through life included a marriage to Jerry Miller, who is the father of her two children, James and Marsha. Later, she was happily married to Jim Sloan until his passing in 2016.
Carol was a woman of impeccable taste and creativity, with a flair for interior and floral design. Her passion for creating beautiful spaces led to her home being featured in Sunset magazine, a testament to her impeccable eye for aesthetics. She found joy in gardening and fashion, always ensuring her family had something glamorous to wear for every special occasion.
Known for her elegance and charm, Carol was a woman who appreciated the finer things in life. She had an affinity for stylish fashion and was always ready to enjoy a great meal and cocktail with family and friends. Her warm and loving nature extended to her role as a mother and grandmother. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and created lasting memories, such as serving root beer floats for breakfast during their visits.
Carol shared a passion for travel with her late husband, Jim, and together they explored the world. Some of their favorite destinations included San Francisco, Paris, England, and frequent trips to the Oregon coast.
Carol also had a deep love for her many canine companions. She and her husband, Jim, shared their hearts and home with many dogs throughout their lives, including Annabelle, Sophie, and Alexander (who became her trusted companion and guard dog after Jim passed away). Each dog brought immeasurable joy and comfort to their lives.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sloan, and her brother, Bill Hennings. She is survived by her children, James Miller and Marsha Roether, step-children, James Sloan and Elizabeth Sloan, niece Dana Gores, and a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason, Justin, Megan, Kelsey, Theodore, Henry, Nate, Audrey, Destiny, Rachel, Faith, Leah, Josiah, Haley, Ella, Riley, Oliver, CJ, Wyatt, Daphne, and Charlotte.
A memorial service to celebrate Carol's life will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 13th, 2023, at Stehn Family Chapels Milwaukie Family Tribute Center, located at 2906 SE Harrison St, Milwaukie, Oregon 97222.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Carol's memory. Carol's legacy of style, love, and elegance will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
