Bruce Karl Baur

Bruce was born in Puyallup, Wash., to Karl E. Baur and Mary G. (Pump) Baur April 20, 1944. His family moved to Milwaukie, Oregon in 1950. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1963, and attended Oregon State University for one year. In 1964 Bruce returned to Milwaukie while he attended Multnomah College and worked part time. Bruce was first hired by Tektronix in June of 1966 as a part time summer employee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 at Fort Polk, La. He returned to Oregon in August of 1969.



On June 13, 1970, Bruce and Nancy Tabor were married. Bruce began working again for Tektronix in cable production, while attaining his Bachelor of Science/Engineering degree at Portland State University in the evenings. He was an Electrical Mechanical Technician and Electronic Design Technician. In 1978 he was awarded his degree, and began working on information display products, specializing in power supply design and electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues.



The Tektronix Printers Division was purchased by Xerox in September of 1999. Bruce worked for Xerox from January, 2000 to February, 2006, as senior Electronic Engineer after 33 years at Tektronix. After retiring from Xerox he was asked to return as a consultant for several years. He was a consulting engineer for several other electronics companies. Bruce has six U.S. patents through Tektronix, and three with Xerox. He was a 32 year member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was also a member of the Northwest Vintage Radio Society for over 20 years. He has been contributing his time to the VintageTek museum since before it opened in 2010. Bruce passed peacefully July 14, 2022 with his beloved family and grand dog Zoey close. Bruce Baur was a loving and generous husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was a mentor and shared his vast knowledge with so many. He was a diagnostic genius, with a gift for problem solving. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Baur; his three loving sons, Mark Baur of Albany, Ore., Brian Baur of Portland, Andrew Baur of Milwaukie; grandchildren, Rosemary Baur, and Peter Baur; daughters-in-law, Jill Dougherty, and Amanda Ashley Baur; sister, Karla Baur of Sherwood; brother, Robert Baur of Ridgefield, Wash.; nephews, William Baur of Battleground, Wash., Alan Baur of Boulder, Colo., Jessie Hicks of Rhododendron, Ore., Jordan Baur of Vancouver, Wash.; niece, Kelly Baur of Ridgefield; stepdaughter, Kathy Smith of Lewisville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janis Mary Baur.



A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at the Gregory Forum Building at Clackamas Community College, 19600 Molalla Avenue, G103, Oregon City, OR. Donations in Bruce's memory may be made to the Mary Baur Endowment Scholarship, CCC Foundation (give.clackamas.edu); Providence Franz Cancer Institute; or the VintageTek Museum.
