Beulah "Bunny" Casale

December 24, 1928 — September 13, 2019

Beulah (Bunny) Clarke Casale, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, of Milwaukie, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the age of 90.

Beulah was born in Youngstown, Ohio to John and Beulah Clarke on December 24, 1928, the youngest of three children. It was here she began her true passion for dance at Fred Kotheimer Dance Studios at a very young age. The family moved to Sykesville, Maryland when she was thirteen to help her Grandmother run the farm. There she helped bring in the hay, never got over her fear of black snakes, and was Valedictorian at Sykesville High School. After graduating she attended the Bessie V. Hick's School of Dramatic Arts in Philadelphia, where she met her future husband Louis Casale. She and Lou often shared the stage with such unknowns as Charles Bronson and Jack Klugman. They were in many plays together and attended Summer stock theater in Maryland and Connecticut. It was during this time she opened the Clarke School of Dance with studios in 3 cities across Maryland. Lou produced many of the recitals and her Mother Beulah helped with the costumes.

Lou and Beulah were married in Baltimore on June 13, 1952 after which they moved to Los Angeles where they started their family. She worked at Beverly Hills Savings and Loan while Lou attended UCLA and worked as the Manager of the Beverly Hills Arthur Murray dance studio. Her favorite thing to say was she received her PhT (Putting Hubby Through). They eventually moved to Milwaukie, Oregon in 1964, where she stayed until her death.

A creative and loving mother, her world truly revolved around her children. Whether late at night hard at work at her sewing machine making costumes or clothing, driving kids to dance or music lessons, volunteering in the PTA, attending recitals, flying to competitions around the world - she was a true force for her children. She enjoyed chair caning, tole painting, and spending time with a group of friends lovingly called "The Treehouse Ladies". Usually the first one to jump in, she always cut a rug beautifully with Lou whenever the music played, and was often found in her favorite hiding spot (the hall closet) when she and Lou would play tag. In her retirement years, she and Lou loved dancing and listening to music, watching movies, reading, gardening and visiting with their children and grandchildren.

Beulah was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Louis F. Casale; parents, John and Beulah Clarke; and brothers, Henry Clarke and Roland Clarke. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Patrick McDougall), John (Jill), Maria (Christopher Hanulik), Elizabeth (Shawn Turpen); eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
