Barbara M. Fairbanks, 92 of Milwaukie, died December 5, 2019. Born Barbara Hartung in Minneapolis, MN May 15, 1927 to Ethel and William Hartung, Barbara grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from University of Minnesota School of Nursing. In 1950 she moved to Portland. Barbara married Norman D. Fairbanks of Bemidji, Minnesota in 1951. They were married 35 years. Barbara and Norman lived in Milwaukie, Oregon for 18 years during which time three children were born, Jerry, Kimberly and Susan. Barbara worked as a Community Health Nurse at Multnomah County Health Department, Portland then obtained her Masters in Nursing from University of Washington and worked at University of Hawaii in Honolulu. The Fairbanks returned to Oregon and Barbara taught Pediatric Nursing at OHSU, Portland for 5 years. The couple returned to Hawaii to teach for several years. After Norman's death in Hawaii in 1986, Barbara finished out her nursing career as an instructor in Family Nursing and Director of Nursing in Hawaii. Barbara Fairbanks developed friendships with ease and kept her Nursing School friendships for almost 70 years, often meeting for reunions. She was a loving, considerate Mother, mother-in-law and hands-on Grandmother. Survivors include three children, Jerry, Kim and Susan, and two grandchildren, Celeste Thomas and Benjamin Lee. A celebration of life will be held January 25, 2020 \u0026nbsp;11:30am, at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, 3810 SE Lake Rd, Milwaukie. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
