Barbara Catharina Bakkum

92 year old Barbara Bakkum passed away following a brief illness.



Born to Dutch immigrant parents in the Clackamas Heights neighborhood of Oregon City, Oregon Barbara never lived more than 15 miles from her birthplace. Barbara and husband, Wally did reside in the Oak Lodge area for nearly 60 years where they raised their family. For many years they square danced with the Oaky Doaks Club of Oak Grove, participated in many community events and entertained many friends. Some of these friends were classmates at the McLaughlin Institute elementary and Oregon City High Schools.



Always fond of adventures Barbara enjoyed ocean cruises, road trips around the United States and Canada and travels throughout Europe. Barbara recently fulfilled her life long dream of taking a hot air balloon ride over the wheat fields near Waitsburg, Washington.



Barbara was instrumental in renewing close friendships with her large Dutch family in The Netherlands and Tasmania, Australia.   Barbara was well known for her optimism, joy and love. In her simple way she had very positive impacts on so many peoples lives. Barbara devoted her life to God in the Catholic faith, her large international family, and to her many friends. Barbara will be greatly missed and always remembered.



A private funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie on August 17, 2021. The service will be live streamed at 10 a.m. through the parish website https://church.sjbmilwaukie.org/ .
