Audrey was born to Roy and Anna Sabin in Grandview, Iowa, the 3rd of 6 children. Because of the Great Depression, the family was forced to leave Iowa looking for work. They ended up in Portland, Oregon when Audrey was 16.
She graduated from Franklin High School in 1936 and worked as a welder in the shipyards during WWII. She met and married Percy Wakefield and moved to Minnesota. When Percy died in 1957, she moved her 5 children back to Oregon to be with her family.
Audrey worked several jobs to make ends meet, ending up at Red's Coach Inn in Milwaukie for 20 years. She met Harland "Si" Fish at Red's and they were married for 18 happy years before he passed away. She retired from Red's and spent her time sewing and quilting for family and friends. She spent her last 6 years in Chehalis, Washington with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was preceded in death by 4 husbands; one daughter, Laura Ann; and one son, Harry Duane Wakefield Sr. Audrey is survived by 3 sons, Michael, William, and John Wakefield; her daughter, Anna Greenly; and Harry's widow, Cha Nam Wakefield. She leaves behind in-laws, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many "adopted" kids. She was "Grams" to all and she loved them as her own.
Audrey had a special place in her heart for Veterans. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a Veteran's charity.
