Arlene Daisy Usher, 100, a resident of the Portland community died March 23, 2011 at her home of natural causes. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park, 11081 SE Mt. Scott Blvd in Portland with Celebrant Cindy Hinton from Peake Funeral Chapel officiating. Arlene Daisy Dixon Usher was born June 20, 1910 in Creston, Iowa, the only child of the late Ernst and Daisy Dixon. She was raised and educated in Omaha on the family farm. Arlene graduated from high school there in 1928. She was the apple of her fathers\u0027 eye while her mother was attending nursing school Arlene was united in marriage to Howard Gilbert Usher in 1934 after they met on a blind date set up by her friends. They raised one son, he was born in 1935 and they celebrated many years of life together before he preceded her in death. The family moved to Oregon in 1947. The family worked at the Hazelfern Dairy in Damascus. Arlene worked at Flavorpac as and inspector for many years. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her grandchildren. Over the years she was the family daycare for the grandchildren and great grandchildren.She was known for her fried chicken, chocolate chip cookies and hand made milkshakes.The homemade turkey gravy will never be matched. Arlene took along some of the kids on trips back to Nebraska to visit family and friends.She was a long time member of the Pilgram Lutheran Church in Portland. Survivors include her son and daughter in law; Darryl and Barbara Usher of Cornelius, grandchildren; Dawn and Richard Baker, Karl and Sandra Usher, great grandchildren; Ricky Baker, Matthew Usher, Erica Jensen and Ariel Usher, Jason and Shawn, three great-great grand babies; Mason Jensen, Cheyenne and Landon Baker, and nephew Bill and Mary Usher of Bend."",
