Alice J. Haworth Desmarteau

August 29, 1924 — August 22, 2013

Alice Julia Wallaert was born in Baker City, OR to Belgium immigrants Ernest and Julia Wallaert. Raised in Cascade Idaho, Alice went on to Sacred Heart School of Nursing (Spokane, WA) and graduated in 1946; after graduation, she met and married Norman W. Haworth (deceased). Alice relocated to Milwaukie, OR in 1955 where she raised her 4 daughters. With family nearby, she settled into the medical profession using her R. N. degree at both hospitals and private medical practices. Alice's passion was, raising her daughters, involvement in her church (St. John the Baptist, Milwaukie) and her lifelong commitment to helping others. In 1967 Alice married Arthur Des Marteau and moved to Bothell, Washington. There she began a new chapter of her life that included traveling, golfing, lots of dancing and assisting her husband in his cleaning product business. After the passing of Art in 1984 Alice returned to Milwaukie where she resided. During those years she enjoyed countless hours of family get-togethers, car trips, extended travel and many close friendships. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sally Gratton and brother, Jan Wallaert. Survivors include her 4 daughters and spouses: Holly and Michael Seiwald, Jeanne and Carl Benson, Mary and Tom Scott, Norma and Larry Schwab; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many very close nieces and nephews, whom all have been an important part of her life. The family would like to extend a deep appreciation and thank-you to the staff from Avamere at Sandy, for the wonderful care Alice received during the 5 years she lived there.
