Aileen Rose (Inkster) Wilkins passed away peacefully February 20th, 2015, in the presence of her loving husband. Aileen was born June 12th, 1932, was raised in St. John's, and was quite proud of her North Portland roots. She attended Assumption Catholic Grade School, and St. Mary's and Roosevelt High Schools. She spent time working for the FBI in Oregon out of high school, before marrying her longtime schoolmate and neighbor, Edward B. Wilkins, and soon after, started a family.
From an early age, Aileen was creative and artistic, with an eye for decorating. While raising four children as a stay at home mother, she spent time fostering her creative side, as a seamstress, decorator and pianist, putting personal touches throughout her house to make it special. This led to a partnership in business as she opened up an antique store in Portland, The Sellwood Ornament, with her longtime friend, Audrey Curtis. She finished her business career working with close personal friends at Guardian Management.
Aileen was the center of family gatherings as she opened her home to all, for any event. It was not uncommon for her to accommodate "another friend or family member that wanted to stop by" the Wilkins' house.
She was also an avid supporter of her children's athletic endeavors, as she cheered "Way to go!" rowdier than any other fan. This athletic prowess came from her own participation in golf, skiing, and ice skating. She continued that spirited support in the bleachers, as her seven grandchildren matured, with a smiling, yet competitive disposition. This carried over to her battle with rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and Alzheimer's disease, as she never complained, dealing with their adversities quietly and humbly, finding solace in her strong Catholic faith. Additionally, Providence Hospice of Portland was instrumental in giving Aileen constant support and care.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward B. Wilkins; daughters, Sharon (Craig) and Michele (Gene); sons, Edward J. (Lisa) and Daniel (Shelley); grandchildren, Brice, Addie, Michael, Madeline, Cade, Callie, and Allison and many nieces and nephews.
